Here is a grammar lesson about wish. In this lesson, you'll see sentences like, "I wish I was thin." This is common in spoken English. We are practicing the more formal style, "I wish I were thin." The formal style is important to use in writing. Either way is okay in speaking. I usually say "were," not "was" after "wish."
